Yes, there is, but it's a function of Perl itself rather than Expect.pm.
I recommend you check two things:
* the comp.unix.programmer FAQ question about "How do I create a daemon?"
* the Proc::Daemon module, which will do all the things you will read about
in the FAQ in one easy step
