As Dannes and others said previously, we'll continue to support the war deployment option if there is interest in it. Obviously there is. The changes Dannes was investigating would allow other war packages to be deployed into eXist-db's jetty, a possibility which has been requested by some people. This feature would complement the other option of installing eXist-db as a war.

However, there are some risks if you deploy a number of wars into the same container and we had some negative experiences with this in the past. This is the reason why we stopped providing a war for download. But for sure this is not an issue for experienced users. I think the potential issues - memory being shared between web apps - have to be made clear and should be properly documented.
