I agree that oddbyexample is a very useful utility if you've already created a corpus of TEI XML documents and want to check on your usage of the various options the TEi gives you. For example, it can be configured to generate an ODD (and hence a schema) in which all the different attribute values used are explicitly enumerated. It currently only generates an "ODD by exclusion" though -- so you might want to complement it with "odd2nuodd" -- another of Sebastian's pieces of wizardry -- which will turn an "ODD by exclusion" into an "ODD by inclusion".
