I see your point. But I am not sure it can be removed. I only see it 
possible if it is not an option to use eXist-db without saxon or make 
sure if it is shifted out that this functionality is provided by the 
replacement processor (or still by saxon classes).

I am currently reviewing the differences between your and mine take at 
this saxon borrow. So I will need to think some more about it.
