In an eXist database of mine I have a document that every now and then gets updated, from a cgi program via REST, with XQuery and the XQuery Update Extensions. The cgi also now and then retrieves data _from_ that document, and I suddenly discovered this process failed. When I tried to inspect the document with the Webstart Client I got an "attribute '...' has no parent element" error. I managed to delete it and replace it with a healthy version, and there's no damage done. But is it possible that my document contained an attribute node with no parent? That my XQuery doing the updating is not quite correct, and sometimes produces xml containing an attribute node with no parent, and this faulty stuff is stored to the database? - Øystein - -- Øystein Reigem, The department of culture, language and information technology (Aksis), Allegt 27, N-5007 Bergen, Norway.
