I've put return in that way because when first time I've tried a query like this, eXist returns me back an error because I wrote if ($a) then $a without else statement. As in the else I wanted to do nothing I had to put else (nothing, I mean No operation) in any case to avoid compilation error. So, I tested with else return that for me means else return nothing do to and as it worked untill last snapshot I left like this. Now something is changed on new release and.... So, now I can put something like if ... then ... else "no operation"?
