You thought correctly, assuming that when you stored your documents, the
attributes value was set to false and you changed it later. Re-index with
the setting you show and, subject to the proviso about overriding xconf
settings, this should work. But also, make sure you are using fulltext
operators/functions to do your attribute value matching.

Well yes, that's because text content of elements is indexed by default, so
that was done when you first stored your documents
