[Exist-open] filter a sequence with fn:matches not working

Hi there,

I tested the following in Saxon 8.5:

collection( $madscoll)//mads:authority/mads:name/mads:namePart[matches(., $=
s)]

and got my sequence filtered as expected by the regex in $s.

Trying the same in exist gives me:

Internal evaluation error: context node is missing for node 2065 ! [at
line 40, column 1]

Am I misunderstanding something here? Is this a known bug?  Is there a
way to work around?  Somehow got lost here...
