Really big question. I can't understand why moving to java 1.5 when 1.6 is stable. I don't ask to move to java 1.7 :)

I understand your remark, but is is rather difficult for many exist
users to switch over to another Java version. You can't imagine the
size of the install base of java 1.3 and 1.4 at this very moment; for
many companies switching is just too problematic...
That's why we stick to Java 1.4 for exist-1.2.x ; for 1.3 we switched
to Java5 although Java6 could have been possible (can't remember). We
are taking small steps indeed.
Fortunately the differences between Java5 and Java6 are not that
large. Some significant changes on JMX, and regarding the new/extended
API's... well sometimes you just don't want to use sun's packaged
code, e.g. Stax, Xerces etc.... Adding some simple jars does the job.
Yeas. I know that Java6 is faster in many respects.... Well the good
thing about Java7 is that it is OpenSource stuff (openjdk).
