I threw a quick Python interface together
for accessing eXist, downloadable at:
This has only been tested with eXist-0.8,
but I think it's the same for eXist-0.7.
It has a number of examples that work
with the default shakespeare database if you just
I specify Python 2 because I don't want
to think about Python 1, and it uses
Python 2's xmlrpc support.
There are some issues with what's returned
from each method. Some people might like
boolean or base64 objects, others might want
an integer or a string. Some might prefer
to have an exception on a failed document,
others might a 0 returned. It's pretty
easy to modify accordingly. It might be
worthwhile adding a "raw" parameter so
that methods pass back exactly what eXist
sends, otherwise clean up and handle differently.
