This is just a heads up, for those that might run into a similar problem.
Updated eXist from SVN this morning and tried to do a clean rebuild with the following steps:
call ant clean
call ant prepare-extensions
call ant all
The first clean task succeeded, but the prepare-extensions died on an error in the subversion.xml build script. I was
getting a strange error message from the svninfo ant task that ./.svn/format was a directory or not readable. Since
there is no such dir/file, and I hadn't changed anything in my build process except update from svn, this seemed rather
As it turns out, I believe there's been an update to the svnkit jars recently, and my build was using the older versions
found in tools/ant
The solution for this was quite simple, just run the following from your root eXist workspace dir:
which will download and install the latest svnkit jar files. This fixed my build error on both Windoze and Ubuntu
So if anyone is building from SVN and runs into this, hopefully this little heads up will save you some grief and some time.
