Sorry, but I'm stuck on this error: XMLDBException: unexpected token: system Do I have the namespace correct or is something else wrong? declare namespace system='http://exist-db.org/xquery/system'; let $params :=<parameters><param name='dir' value='../backup'/><param name='suffix' value='.zip'/><param name='prefix' value='backup-'/><param name='collection' value='/db'/></parameters> system:trigger-system-task('org.exist.storage.BackupSystemTask', $params) Thanks, Gary |

> XMLDBException: unexpected token: system > > Do I have the namespace correct or is something else wrong? My fault: in my example, the "return" for the let was missing. The expression should be let $params :=<parameters><param name='dir' value='../backup'/><param name='suffix' value='.zip'/><param name='prefix' value='backup-'/><param name='collection' value='/db'/></parameters> return system:trigger-system-task('org.exist.storage.BackupSystemTask', $params) Wolfgang P.S.: if someone knows how to tell the ANTLR-generated parser to report something like "expected 'return', found 'system'" rather than just "unexpected token: system", please contact me ;-) |

In attempting to utilize the exist use of the lucene query syntax in a generic way I've run in to a bit of an issue if I simply wrap the query in my own function and call my function vs the exist on I get a huge performace loss. declare namespace my = "http://my.namespace.com/extensions"; declare function my:fts($nodes as node()*, $query as xs:string) as node()* { ft:query($nodes, $query) }; /path[my:fts(.,"myquery*")] Vs. /path[ft:query(.,"myquery*")] Results in a time differnce of 2 minutes vs 200 ms. Can anyone help me understand why this is such a different result and how I should go about wrapping/extending the ft:query functionality. Thank you, -- Paul Ryan |

> with function ft:query called many times (1 time for each path > element), with XPath only 1 time for whole collection of path elements Yes. The query optimizer is able to process the XPath expression /path[ft:query(.,”myquery*”)] in a single step, because the context, /path, is known and ft:query identifies itself as an optimizable function. For ft:query to be fast, it should be used with an XPath predicate. Wolfgang |

After retrieving hits using ft:query, I wrap the sequence of hits in an element that also contains metadata related to the search - this is used for other search-related functionality on the site. When the sequence of hits is later retrieved from the wrapper element (to list by rank and display KWIC-like summaries), none of the Lucene-related functions work (ft:score, util:expand). Here is a simplified example to illustrate the problem: let $search-term := "test" let $results := collection("/db/content")//p[ft:query(., $search-term)] let $results-wrapper := <search-results> <other-info/> <results>{subsequence($results, 1, 10)}</results> </search-results> let $wrapped-hits := $results-wrapper/results/child::node() let $wrapped-hit-matches := for $hit in $wrapped-hits let $matches := util:expand($hit, "expand-xincludes=no")//exist:match return count($matches) let $unwrapped-hit-matches := for $hit in subsequence($results, 1, 10) let $matches := util:expand($hit, "expand-xincludes=no")//exist:match return count($matches) $wrapped-hit-matches returns sequence of zeros, while $unwrapped-hit-matches returns the expected sequence of match counts. XML-wise, subsequence($results, 1, 10) and $wrapped-hits appear to contain the same data. Is there a reason why passing this sequence around is not allowed? I assume there is more going on behind the scenes, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help would be great. Thanks! -Will |

After spending the last year and a half on YouTube curing lots of computer phobias and educating the general public, I can safely say that I'm not the least bit discouraged by you or anyone else. But I will say that there isn't much of a point to having the eXist database program if you can't connect it to port 80. So many people are afraid of their cable modems and their routers that I felt this discussion was necessary. I know I was totally petrified of my router until last night. Now if you know of a place where I should go to get my router questions answered, then by all means tell me where to go. I will happily go there and get my information. Once I have it, I will make videos of my port forwarding efforts and post them on YouTube so that others can lose their phobias of routers and cable modems. Again I say that a discussion on routers and cable modems is most appropriate on this discussion board because without them eXist wouldn't work very well. It's okay if you don't wish to help me, but please don't inhibit me from helping others. I've met too many people who are utterly petrified of their computers not to address this issue. |

Hello Ted, I really understand your frustration, but eXist email list is high volume and whilst my request may seem like I am inhibiting you, I am not. Your question is important to you but it is not to the many people who have subscribed to an email list about an XML Database and receive a copy. I will try to point you to a good place to ask general questions like you have e.g. stackoverflow.com or even better for your specific kind of question about router, its sister site: serverfault.com for example; http://serverfault.com/questions/27547/problem-hosting-server-behing-personal-router good luck with solving your problem and I hope to see you back here soon with your (videotaped) experiences with eXist. I’m running version 1.4.2 (revision 16251). I’ll try rephrasing to clarify. At this point, if I run an xquery in a .xql file from the server I have to provide credentials through the xmldb:login function or am prompted. What I would like to happen is that if script is run from the same server (exist/webapp/xquery/) that it would not be necessary to provide the credentials. On the other hand, if a script is run against the server from a local machine or other, it would then require the password authentication. Does this clarify? ~Trevor From: Erik Siegel [mailto:ma...@xa...] Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2013 12:36 AM To: Hendricks Trevor; exi...@li... A database usually has knowledge of the host, local or not. You'll have to make a user for your local machine and assign the proper rights, then login that user. You could store the user in a script, system variable or proxy. Other options are more obtrusive imho. 2013/1/30 Hendricks Trevor <Tre...@ko...> > I’m running version 1.4.2 (revision 16251).**** > > ** ** > > I’ll try rephrasing to clarify.**** > > ** ** > > At this point, if I run an xquery in a .xql file from the server I have > to provide credentials through the xmldb:login function or am prompted. > What I would like to happen is that if script is run from the same server > (exist/webapp/xquery/) that it would not be necessary to provide the > credentials.**** > > ** ** > > On the other hand, if a script is run against the server from a local > machine or other, it would then require the password authentication.**** > > ** ** > > Does this clarify?**** > > ** ** > > ~Trevor**** > > ** ** > > *From:* Erik Siegel [mailto:ma...@xa...] > *Sent:* Wednesday, January 30, 2013 12:36 AM > *To:* Hendricks Trevor; exi...@li... > *Subject:* RE: [Exist-open] (no subject)**** > > ** ** > > Hello Trevor,**** > > ** ** > > Not sure what you mean? Hi Trevor, > At this point, if I run an xquery in a .xql file from the server I have to > provide credentials through the xmldb:login function or am prompted. Could you confirm that your .xql file uses functions that require dba access (e.g., xmldb:store(), or XQuery Update expressions)? Otherwise, assuming your .xql file is guest-readable and guest-executable, you should not have to authenticate. What is the full text of the error you get if you do not authenticate? If you need more assistance with this, please let us know whether you have functions that require dba access in the .xql or not, and what the permissions are on your .xql file (n.b.: you can view permissions using the Java Admin Client), and the error messages you see (if any) when you try to execute your .xql file without authenticating. My suggestion here is, of course, separate from the question you raised in your most recent email of how to allow local execution without authentication while requiring authentication for remote execution. Cheers, Joe |
