I'm a student at a small college, which has just
deployed an LDAP directory. I was thinking that
everything would make an excellent contribution to
campus activities. It would be GREAT if there were LDAP
support, so students could use their logins as
confirmed identities. Has anything like this been
considered?

    I think it would be great to support some kinds of third
    party authentication and have been tossing that idea
    around in my head for a bit.

    * LDAP
    * HTTP-Auth
    * Kerberos, etc

    Some items would be harder than others to code, but it
    could be very useful to fit everything into the places
    where we all know it can go.

    How would this work .. create a new user on the fly at first
    login attempt, with a dbfield set to authenticate against
    the authentication method rather than the passwd field?
