It > seemed reasonable that one should initialise the chip before setting the > stats area in all cases. well I've not looked at any other eepro100's but I did find a couple of more changes in the Linux driver that might be needed in etherboot, but I didn't want to break anything with them, so I've left them out, what issues are you still seeing with eepro100? there is a workaround for certain revs on 10MB networks in the Linux driver that might be needed in the transmit path, among others I'm sure.. I think a few readbacks of the registers like Linux does may also help some issues..
