The damn thing is giving me nightmares :-(

I have tried everything I can think of, reviewed the code a number of
times, but it just seems to be too slow.  I am sure there is something I
am missing, but I am not sure what.

I did send a copy of the card to Marty, so I am hoping that he will be
able to help find the problem when he has time.
