One question: What type of PC is the card (eepro100) plugged in ? Is this a very fast PC ? More than 500MHz (700, 1GHz...) I have found problems with a 2.2.18 Linux driver. Up to a 500MHz machine it works, on 700MHz sporadic problems were seen, on 1GHz machine and higher, the card will not work. The EEPRO100 community of D. Becker never wants to discuss the problem and the apropriate changes in newer versions. Those knowledge has helped us to understand better problems handling the eepro100 card, also in etherboot and GRUB. I hope, I will have time to play around one day concerning this problem.
