The symptoms are certainly the same.

Could you see if the E820 issue is new?
That is could you take a 5.0 series etherboot and dump the e820 map
you get.

My gut feeling is that we may be suffering from multiple issues.

Wth two people reporting the same symptoms something fishing is going on.

I sent Timothy Legge some binaries built on my machine and they did not
work either, so it does not look like toolchain issues.
