Hmm.  The more I look at this the more I want to do:

file:///driver/disk/partition/.....
Where I would have driver choices of:
bios_disk
ide
floppy
idecd
plus various scsi controllers some day.

With an extra driver disk, that would walk through all of drivers
is some order and give you the specified disk.  Or possibly
a extra drivers fixed and removable that walk through the various kinds
of disk in the specified order.

With the exact driver match you can trivially go directly to the disk
you are looking for, without worrying about spinning up unnecessary
disks.  And the alias drivers would allow for simple configurations.
