This feature already exists: see ppmtoansi in contribs and the vendortags documentation. I'm using it to provide a graphical splash-screen bootmenu already: you can see the results in the "jumpwire" package downloadable from www.fensystems.co.uk/[S]RPMs. A word of warning: don't use jumpwire "as is"; it's proof-of-concept code and choosing option "D" from the boot menu *will* destroy /dev/hdb1...
