You are right, it is a special case.
But this case is not only for ISA, but also for PCI !!
In my case it was a PCI device (eepro100) and a new embedded
Pentium board and a current BIOS version.
And especially for all users (also beginners), who want to use
the etherboot query instead of the BIOS boot order, all those
user will need this options (removing "-DPCI_PNP_HEADER").
So it is not so special ...
It is paradox. The old BIOS not able to handle PCI/PnP headers,
have no problems, but the user also misses the feature of a
define boot order including the net.
On very new BIOS the problem exists, if the user want to have
a selection without touching the BIOS setup 9for example
embedded boards using serial console with a BIOS without serial
console port ....).
I hope I could explain the problem, I often use the wrong words ...
