Confirmed.  RIS is working perfectly for me with pxe_set_cached_filename() 
removed.

I've pushed this change.  Alex: could you check that this solves your Bootix 
problem?

I'd appreciate any reports of breakages caused by this change, though I don't 
believe we ever had anything besides RIS that we thought depended on it.
