Hi all, 
I have received this email address from google and hope you can help me an
issue with etherape please. I have installed etherape on a Knoppix CD while
doing a remaster. When trying to run the application from the KMenu, I
receive an error saying "Error getting device: no suitable device found". If
I try to run it from a root command line interface, it works fine. The
version of Knoppix in use is KNOPPIX 3.8.2 and other installed applications
are working fine. I would really appreciate if you could kindly help me with
this please.

Hello,

I am looking for some software to monitor/analyze network traffic and I see
that etherape seems to do a great job.

Is there any easy way to tie etherape to cacti?  Or possibly some other
solution?

It seems like that it would be really helpful to have the traffic logged and
then checked by cacti to create a very small representation of the
historical data.

Etherape is more suited to real-time monitoring. For long term stats you 
can look at ntop (http://www.ntop.org)

Etherape *must* be run as root, otherwise you don't have enough 
permission to open the net interfaces.
