... that there was one clarification I wanted to make with the Alpha 1.0 downloads. I mention (in several locations) that this is more of a 'tech demo' and that I'm trying to exhibit a little of what I've conceived so far: essentially that of a top-down survivial horror, cross platform, 2d video game. THAT having been said, I also wanted to add that when I ask for suggestions/criticisms, please don't hesitate to go outside of the box in ideas. I'm not particularly good in development planning, unfortunately, and don't really have a specific direction for many aspects of the game so it is essentially in conceptual development as well. For example, a friend suggested making the game with an 8-bit art style. How things will go will depend entirely on what I can come up with, though, so if you're interested in helping out, please don't feel that you need to contribute anything more than throwing me an e-mail.
Took me a few months of not having time and, with the time I did have, not being successful but I've finally been able to produce a working build in Windows! You'll now find it in the downloads section as Escape-win32.zip. As with the previous and source builds I would appreciate any and all feedback on thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and criticisms for direction to take with this project. Please don't feel obligated to do anything more than shoot me a quick e-mail; all input is greatly appreciated! Also, I've redone the source build to include a readme to address the libraries issue with the Windows build (basically, if you plan on building in Windows I ask that you also download the Window's binary package in order to get all the appropriate libraries - that is if you don't have them/want to figure it out yourself. If you need any help just let me know!... read more
I wanted to make this note separate from my introductory note to emphasize two points that were implemented in the game itself but I realized (after the fact) did not make it into the readme. First off: the game/readme mentions that you are only able to move around with the arrow keys. I've since added support for the traditional WASD keys as well (both work). Secondly, later on in the demo when you come accross a zombie he falls apart after you 'push' at him for a moment. This is NOT standard behavior but is scripted (see plotfile.dat for the game-scripting reference). Normally the zombie would be pushed back for a moment and then chase after you (or the closes non-zombie non neutral thing it sees).... read more
This is the conglomoration of probably a year and a half work of off-and-on work. I basically had an idea to write a 2d survival horror-esque game where the player goes from level to level using a flashlight to see while avoiding zombies, traps, and whatever else I could come up with.
I'm considering this to be an alpha 1.0 version of the game because while the fundamentals have been implemented, there are many additional things (graphics, sounds, expansion of 'in game scripting', etc...) that need much more development and testing.... read more
