I wanted to boot my old OSF/1 backups on ES40. While I wasn't able to boot Digital Unix 4.0d iso image in ES40, I got a little bit further with latest Debian netboot image:
P00>>>boot dqa0
(boot dqa0.0.0.15.0 -flags 0)
block 0 of dqa0.0.0.15.0 is a valid boot block
reading 158 blocks from dqa0.0.0.15.0
bootstrap code read in
base = 200000, image_start = 0, image_bytes = 13c00(80896)
initializing HWRPB at 2000
initializing page table at 1ff56000
initializing machine state
setting affinity to the primary CPU
jumping to bootstrap code
aboot: Linux/Alpha SRM bootloader version 1.0_pre20040408
aboot: switching to OSF/1 PALcode version 1.92
aboot: booting from device 'IDE 0 15 0 0 0 0 0'
aboot: no disklabel found.
iso: Max size:94222 Log zone size:2048
iso: First datazone:36 Root inode number 73728
aboot: loading uncompressed boot/vmlinuz...
aboot: loading compressed boot/vmlinuz...
aboot: zero-filling 844938 bytes at 0xfffffc00015fc44e
aboot: loading initrd (4876625 bytes/4762 blocks) at 0xfffffc001f9ae000
aboot: starting kernel boot/vmlinuz with arguments ramdisk_size=14920 root=/dev/ram devfs=mount,dall
I don't know if I waited enough for this to continue, but my CoreDuo got so hot that I just aborted it.
Real question is: is there any interest in booting OSes other than VMS on ES40, and if there is can we have a maling list for that please?

There definitely is some interest for runing other OS'es; we're making some progress with Linux (AlphaCore 3), FreeBSD and NetBSD. I don't have OSF/1, Digital UNIX or Tru64; but I know people are interested in that as well.
I'll take a look at the mailing list structure.
Camiel.

Just in case everyone wasnt accutely aware of the price on the emulators based of the charon/axp product, emulating an es40 with 2 1ghz CPUs and 4GB of RAM is about $75,000!!!! You can but an es40 or es45 with that config for !$7000 from great lakes!
Thanks for all the hard work. I'm very excited about this project!

Definitely interested in the Tru64 support!
