running OpenVMS83 installation (in "Configuring devices..." phase), I had these debug messages. I don't know if the "Debug pause" message is related to the new ide interface.
%IDE-I-NODEV: Command to non-existing device 0.1. cmd=ec
%IDE-I-NODEV: Command to non-existing device 1.1. cmd=ec
%IDE-I-NODEV: Command to non-existing device 1.1. cmd=0
%IDE-I-NODEV: Command to non-existing device 1.1. cmd=0
%IDE-I-NODEV: Command to non-existing device 1.1. cmd=0
Debug Pause: Wrote to 0x3n7 -- it is read only!
%IDE-I-NODEV: Command to non-existing device 0.1. cmd=a1
%IDE-I-NODEV: Command to non-existing device 1.1. cmd=a1
I configured just disk0.0 and disk1.0 in my es40.cfg

I'm the developer of the newide interface. The "debug pause" message is really a message for me to let me know something is going on in a sea of debugging messages. You just have to hit 'enter' in that window to get it to continue. I'm going to submit a new version to Camiel this morning which puts that (and the other IDE-I-NODEV messages) into an ifdef block so they only happen if DEBUG_IDE is selected at compile time.

i'm testing the latest snapshot, but I have still some probs installing OpenVMS 8.3 with cdrom=true option.
Now the boot is ok, but during the file copy, I have an unrecoverable error about a read operation, and some wrong crc from this read.
If I set cdrom=false, I haven't this error, but it happens another strange thing: the installation (Execution Phase starting...) is fine until I reach the 50%, after that it hangs. The emulator is running fine, and no error messages are written on the DOS screen, but, last week, I waited for 3 hours and nothing happened after the 50%.
What's after the 50%? Some special operations ?

other tests about NewIde and cdrom=true.
Using the latest cvs (updated at 00:15 italian time), I receive a fatal error during the startup of OpenVMS 8.3, and the simulated machine reboot.
this happened some versions ago.
Now with the latest cvs version, also with the latest snapshot if I remember well, this delay doesn't exist anymore, and the installation go fine in about 1.5 hrs.

Hello all,
other tests about NewIde and cdrom=true.
Using the latest cvs (updated at 00:15 italian time), I receive a fatal error during the startup of OpenVMS 8.3, and the simulated machine reboot.
On the DOS console I have
Unknown PCHIP 1 CSR 0000340 read attempted.
Unknown PCHIP 1 CSR 0000440 read attempted.
Unknown PCHIP 1 CSR 0000480 read attempted.
Unknown PCHIP 1 CSR 00004c0 read attempted.

Unknown PCHIP 0 CSR 0000340 read attempted.
Unknown PCHIP 0 CSR 0000440 read attempted.
Unknown PCHIP 0 CSR 0000480 read attempted.
Unknown PCHIP 0 CSR 00004c0 read attempted.
Unknown PCHIP 0 CSR 0000500 read attempted.
Unknown PCHIP 0 CSR 0000540 read attempted.
[then the reboot]
By the way if I use cdrom=false, the installation procedure starts, but it seems to hang at 50%, as I described before.

Hi, Fausto.
I am having the same problem, and at the DOS window the numbers are still running after 5:00hrs !
Do you have any idea, or suggestion?

Thanks for your help fausto, I am using version 0.18 of the emulator and the problem still occurs. What version of emulator are you using?
Best regards,
Flávio
Hello Flavio,
i'm using the cvs version, you can get it using CVS.
