I am trying to let eroaster detect my SCSI CD-RW drive. I log in as root, click the "Preferences" tab and then click on "Detect Recorder". I get a message that says "Couldn't detect your reader / recorder ! Please make sure that you are root or that you're allowed to read /dev/sg*!"
As I already stated, I am root and when I look at /dev/sg* I notice that I have two links to the same file. The sg* links are both owned by root:root and have 555 permissions.
I am running Mandrake 8.2 using kernel 2.4.18-6 and I am using ECLiPt Roaster Version 2.0.12. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi ... there are problems with eroaster 2.0.12 and Mandrake 8.2 ... could you please try the new snapshot at ftp://eclipt.uni-klu.ac.at and let me know wether the problem still persists ? additionally, try "cdrecord -scanbus" and check, wether some error occurs or not.

In downloaded and installed roaster-2.1.0.tar.gz. When I click on either "Detect Recorder" or "Detect Reader" nothing appears in the "Channel", "ID", or "Lun" fields. Various messages appear from the terminal session that I used to open the program. Please let me know if you want me to paste the messages here.
I ran cdrecord -scanbus and here are my results:
"0,6,0 6) 'HP ' 'CD-Writer+ 9200 ' '1.0e' Removable CD-ROM"
My guess is that cdrecord can detect my CD-RW. What is my next step?

My burner is IDE. A similar problem also happens to me in gtoaster so perhaps its an incompatibility with cdrecord... The problem is non-existent in xcdroast.

I just downloaded eroaster-2.1.0-0.3.noarch.rpm and it asked me to get cdda2wav <>= 1.9 but I have version 1.11 included with MDK that is required by Xcdroast.
Oh the tangled web we weave!
Should I force install of eroaster? I rip songs in other programs.
