I agree about the design choice.
My question is about the usability of the error message:
"yaws: Failed to accept - terminating: {error,emfile}"
Is this the bit which tells you that it ran out of FDs?
Why don't you output "FD pool exceeded"? Would make it easier to understand, IMHO.

This discussion has been up on the list many times before, I maintain
the view that the right thing to do for the webserver when
accept() fails due to too many filedescriptors, is to die.
