This is odd, because when I do a clean checkout with

  cvs -z3 -d:ext:di...@cv...:/cvsroot/erc \
  co -d erc_4_0_branch -rrelease_4_0_branch erc

I get an erc.el which is 7011 lines long (the size during commit).
