Great!  A good way to start would be to grab our easy-mmode.el from [1]
or the latest Sumo and start working out the diff (beware, it's quite a
big one) between it and the desired GNU version.  And to keep in mind
that it has to work with XEmacs 21.1, 21.4 and 21.5... but to be able to
get the synced version to work with 21.4 would be a good start.
