It may be possible to run it on windows.
I didn't try it on windows. But if you all prerequisites are meet, it may be possible to run EqualX at this moment.
As soon as possible I'll make a version for windows too.

EqualX does not deal with the rendering of equations, it is an interface to latex.
To render equations you need a latex distribution.
Such as http://miktex.org/ for Windows or http://tug.org/texlive/ for Linux.
Download MiKTeX and install it. EqualX should display equations properly now.
After installing MikTeX, please notify me if EqualX works properly.

If you already have installed a latex distribution, set in EqualX preferences to point to the files: latex and dvipng. This files usually come installed with a latex distribution.
You can do this in the preferences dialog. Launch EqualX, go to Edit->Preferences and LaTex tab.
Click the first "Browse" button and point to latex executable.
Click the second "Browse" button and select dvipng executable.
Click "Ok" button in the dialog.
Enter a equation in the editor. You should see it now rendered.
Usually (in Windows) you find latex and dvipng programs installed in C:\Program Files\<Latex Distribution>\
and in Linux in /usr/bin.
Please let me know if you have any further problems

Now it does run on windows.
now it starts under windows!
But the preview doesn't work, and neither does "save as png" work (nothing happens!)

I had latex installed, but it is a such massive software that I do no longer wanted to use it…
I thought I could use your software "WITHOUT" the need of latex.
So it is no longer relevant to me
