Present Guidelines recommend use of
<lb rend="right-to-left"/>
and
<lb rend="left-to-right"/>
to indicate text direction; however the current example stylesheets have no provision for treating these attribute values (I have grepped for both rend values across the entirety of the example stylesheets). I attach a test file.
Diff:
I've added basic handling of left-to-right and right-to-left, but nothing for (a) other values of
@rendnor (b) any escapes for unhandled values. Leaving ticket open until it's a little bit better.Note also that Martin Holmes is doing some important work with the TEI on multi-directional texts, and we should follow this carefully. Will report here as appropriate.

TEI is going to be adding ways of indicating directionality - might wait to see what they offer.
I agree we want to reviw our own usage once the TEI recommendations come on-stream, but in the meantime the error initially reported in this ticket is fixed. I would actually suggest closing this, on the grounds that it's not a bug any more. A feature request might be appropriate once Martin's recommendations appear?
Sounds good, closed.
