This is interesting, the KDE guys have the idea to use idle cpu processes to
get money to pay developers. Thats an idea that actually could work,

Of course, there's the problem that you'd have to use a Java-style sandbox
to restrict the application security-wise - and that would tend to make a
big hit on the efficiency.
And it's hardly a "new" idea - Nathaniel Borenstein did work on AtomicMail
back in 1993 - http://www.isi.edu/in-notes/iana/assignments/media-types/application/atomicmail
but as he notes, Safe-Tcl and Java have essentially superceded it.
