I want to move my keys from the hard drive to a removable thumb drive. The handbook gives instructions for winXP. I need instructions to do this in win7 64bit.
Thanks

No sir. There is a GNU folder within "C:\users\username\appdata\Local" which contains the folders "cache/dirmngr" which is empty. No GNUGPG folder anywhere as reported in the handbook.
Thanks

Well, I have another problem. I moved the files as described but now I keep getting a key error stating that the subkey may have expired.
Can you send a list of the exact files that should be moved to the thumbdrive? I moved the entire gnupg folder and I suspect that is wrong. When I started up Tbird afterwards another gnupg folder was written in the roaming folder. Thanks

All files in the GnuPG folder. Most important are secring.gpg (your private keys) pubring.gpg (your public keys), trustdb.gpg (the data containing the calculation of the trust) and gpg.conf

You need to specify the path to the new location with the "--homedir" directive. On windows, there is also a way setting it via a registry key. You may want to look for the settings for HKLM\Software\GNU\GnuPG and HKCU\Software\GNU\GnuPG.

Yes, I used the "--homedir" directive in accordance with the handbook. Enigmail sees the keys on the thumbdrive as they are displayed when selecting "key Management". The problem occurs when attempting to use the key. Error "Cannot find key #######, the subkey may have expired." There is no GNU folder in HCLM\software nor is there a GnuPG folder in HKCU\software\GNU folder.
Thanks

The instructions are the same. Just replace "C:\Documents and Settings" with "C:\Users"

The gnupg folder was in the roaming folder. All is well. Thanks.

That is exactly what I did and entered the new path in the additional parameters window in preferences\advanced. Keep getting that subkey error. ????
Thanks for the help
