I need to know how to migrate from Xubuntu 16.04 to a new install running 18.04.

My hard drive is showing signs of instability, so I bought a new hard drive and installed Xubuntu on it. The failing drive works, but I am saving it in case I need to retrieve data from it. Thunderbid encryption works fine on the (possibly) failing hard drive, at the moment.

I have an encrypted home folder, which might complicate things.

I have to many keys to do the import/export process for all of them. And, I don’t have the passphrase for all my private keys.

Which home folder files/folders do I have to copy in order to begin using encrypted email on the new hard drive?

Is there any web resource that gives additional information on migrating to new installs?

To create a backup of your keys including the GnuPG configuration, you have to copy the complete content of ~/.gnupg (including all subfolders).

For copying your Thunderbird profile, see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer
