I want to send an encrypted message to a friend of mine of which i have the public key.
I imported te public key to Thunderbird.
I set trust level to full.
I Already tried setting a rule for his email-adress.
My problem is the following:
Whenever i try to send him an email, after clicking the key in the lower left corner, and clicking on "send" the
"selct key" window pops up.
I Guess this is all correct. However, the imported Public Key is shown bust at trust there is only a " - " displayed. the checkbox is red and therefore unclickable.
What is the problem with his e-mail adress?
Encrypting with my own key is working correctly, however thos message could not be decrypted by anyone because the would ned my pass and my whole key correct?
So why cant i correctly use my friends public key?
I tried this scenario with different friends, different keys and different e-mail adresses on my side.
Used thunderbird version: 16.02
Used Enigmail: 1.4.6
Used OS: Windows 7, Windows XP, Ubuntu 10.4, Ubuntu 12

You have to differentiate between Trust and Validity. You either have to enable the option 'trust all keys', or you have to sign the recipients keys to make them usable.

Can you please explain how you imported the public key into Thunderbird? I don't seem to be able to do that at my end so I might be totally missing something. Thank you!

Dear Jonathon,
Can you please explain how you imported the public key into Thunderbird? I don't seem to be able to do that at my end so I might be totally missing something. Thank you!
