I use Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (latest kernel) wih Thunderbird (68.4.1 (64 bit) and Enigmail 2.1.5 (20191231-1524). When I initiate a new email, pressing the Enigmail button causes TB to crash with the attached log file, and ths TB log: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/6df167ae-0a45-415d-ab4b-f3dbd0200319.
I do not understand what is going on... Is the crash caused by Enigmail itself, or something else in this latest version of TB (since january 2020)?

My answer may not be helpful since I'm not using Ubuntu (but Arch, no crashes here), but for what it's worth:
How did you install Thunderbird, and Enigmail? As package from the repo or manually from the respective Websites? If you installed from repo (which you should give a try), then conflicts/crashes should be reported to the package maintainer…

There are similar such reports on the Mozilla Bugtracker. The crash is most likely caused by a combination of Thunderbird and KDE. Enigmail only uses Thunderbird functions that should not crash. In any event, there is likely not much to fix on the side of Enigmail.

I'm using TB+EM on KDE, daily … no crashes here!

Thanks for the hint: I was using the Unity desktop. I have switched to the Gnome Desktop for Ubuntu, and now TB does not crash any more when I want to encrypt a new email usong Enigmail! I don't understand why... Maybe the problem started when TB-68 was introduced, so it can happen again with the next upgrade. All this leaves me with a feeling of insecurity I could do without these days...
