    Hello everybody,

I have a small "problem" with enigmail - in principle, everything is working fine, it's just that I have to place the buttons "encrypt" (lock) and "sign" (pen) in the Thunderbird menu bar everytime I am writing an email. When wrtiting a new email, these buttons disapear from the bar. Is this a known problem, do you know how I could fix it? I am using the last version of Thunderbird (68.2.2) on Windows 10 (build 18363).

    Cheers and thanks!

Hi Frido, this doesn't happen for me in Enigmail but my customization of Toolbars in Lightning and Cardbook gets reset to default each time I restart TB. It seems that this is rather a TB issue. Olav

Hi Olav, thank you for the quick answer! OK, I'll try to see if I find something in TB to solve this.

Do you place the icons on the main button bar or on a different bar (menu bar, additional bar)?

The way TB 60/68 works, you can only place the icons on the standard toolbar.

Well, which one is the main button bar? I place them on the bar also containing the "send" button while writing an email. I also tried to create a new bar for these buttons, but that does not work, in that case they don't even appear when I drag and drop them.

The bar with Send button is the default bar.

You might also try to reset the bar to defaults. This should add the Enigmail buttons and possibly delete some broken settings.

Hello Patrick, thanks for the advice and sorry for the late response. Indeed, reseting the bar adds the Enigmail buttons on the opened Email window. However, they still disappear when opening a new email window - anyway, I just have to routinely think about reseting the bar each time I write a new email.

I have the same problem using Thunderbird 68.10.0 And Enigmail 2.1.7.

I digged a bit deeper and noticed that the buttons are there but just not visible. Here's something I found in xulstore.json which is the file where the toolbars are stored:

    "composeToolbar2":{"currentset":"button-send,separator,button-save,priority-button,button-attach,cloud_johannes-endres_de-composeAction-toolbarbutton,spellingButton,button-quicktext,button-enigmail-sign,button-enigmail-encrypt,button-security","mode":"full","iconsize":"large"}

So the two buttons are there but just not visible.

Btw, I tried to reset the toolbars by deleting/renaming xulstore.json. I had brand new toolbars then, but when I added the two Enigmail buttons, these buttons dissapeared again after closing the compose window and opening it again.

As I both write signed, unsigned, plain and encrypted messages I use the buttons a lot. Using the menu and not seeing what is currently active and not, is taking a lot of time and comfort. So I am looking forward for a fix and am happy to help and debug further if needed.

    Thanks and cheers

If you reset the toolbar buttons, they should automatically be visible. I see that you seem to have installed some other add-on (cloud_johannes-endres_de-composeAction-toolbarbutton), and I suspect that this breaks Enigmail or prevents it from restoring the toolbar icons. Try disabling that add-on and check if Engimail then restores the toolbar icons.

Thank you for your message. It looks like this addon (with the button cloud_johannes-endres_de-composeAction-toolbarbutton) really prevents the icons for showing up.

I'll try to address the problem with the addon author.

      Thanks again!

      Hi,

I'm the author of that Addon, and I can confirm the problem. It also happens with other MailExtensions that add a compose_action, eg apiList from the sample extensions. I'm afraid it's a problem with XUL and new style extensions adding stuff to the samte toolbar.

@Patrick: Can you think about anything which does not allow to see the existing Enigmail icons if these compose_action icons of other plugins are present?
