I have been battling a problem with enigmail for thunderbird version 1.5.2. I have GnuPG version 2.0.20. The primary problem that I originally had was the enigmail was NOT encrypting email when attachments are attached to the email. Even when selecting signatures, encryption and using PGP/mime thunderbird/enigma just sends the email without encrypting it. I think I was able to fix that problem by uninstalling and reinstalling enigmail. Now when I select the option of attaching my public key to the email message it sends the email without the public key and without encrypting the message.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Steve L.

I had the same problem and found out the following:
When attaching a document to a thunderbird mail and trying to send it
encrypted with enigmail-plugin I ended up sending the mail unencrypted
without any notification of Thunderbird/Enigmail telling me this. I just
found out by coincidence.
The reason for this was an activated setting "Sign messages per default"
in the account settings under S/MIME-Security.
When trying to send a mail encrypted with OpenPGP PGP/MIME this was
obviously not overwritten and no feedback was given.
I don't S/MIME sign my mails now anymore...
Best,
Adrien
