I have used Enigmail but not recently. Today, after botching the
creation of a new public key I decided to uninstall the plugin,
    reinstall it and start fresh.

    System:
    Host: orphaned-inode Kernel: 4.19.4-1-MANJARO x86_64 bits: 64

local mail client is Thunderbird 60.3.1. I am on the stable branch. I
use Keepass for all passwords and store keys and passwords there as a
    backup.

I figured that Adele was the easiest way to verify my work. Got and
imported her public key. I have a number of times tried to send her
signed and encrypted e mails. I attach my public key as an attachment
using the check box under /Enigmail/Attach My Public key checkbox on the
    compose message pane.

Under the Enigmail Key Management window /Keyserver , when I try to
execute "upload public keys" I get

Sending of keys failed gpg: sending key A50F441BC475F651 to
    hkps://hkps.pool.sks-keyservers.net

for no reason. When I try to refresh all public keys I get

Downloading of keys failed gpg: refreshing 8 keys from
hkps://hkps.pool.sks-keyservers.net gpg: keyserver refresh failed: No
    route to host.

I also have port 11371 enabled for outgoing traffic on the firewall. So
far I have been unable to reach a key server. Question- Why cant Adele
decrypt my e mail and 2) Is there a problem with the public server? Or
the address? I try to ping the hkps...... and receive name or service
unknown. The following line is cut and pasted from "Specify your
    keyservers" under /Enigmail/keyserver.

    hkps://hkps.pool.sks-keyservers.net, hkps://keys.mailvelope.com,
    hkps://pgp.mit.edu

Any help or suggestions deeply appreciated.

    Regards

A revision to the above. The Mailvelope server finally accepted my public key and verified it. Again tried an encrypted message with Adele and still, this error-

I have received an encrypted message from you. However, I could not
find a public key that matches your email address so I cannot
reply with encrypted messge. Since I want to keep the message you sent
me in confidence, I will not quote it in this unencrypted reply and
just let you know that I could decrypt the message properly.

when I sent the message to her I both forced signing and used Engimail/"attach my public key" on the outgoing message. When I look at the message in the sent folder in Thunderbird, the .asc key file is there. So its there as an attachment. She asks for it and its attached. What am I doing wrong, should i be included inline or?? I am at a loss.
    Regards and thanks.
interesting how I attached female gender to a bot with the name Adele........

Up/downloading keys is most likely not working due to the same reason as the following post:
    https://sourceforge.net/p/enigmail/forum/support/thread/027fb91d75/?limit=25#dd19

I'm not sure if Adele is working correctly. However, Adele is run by the GNU Privacy Project and I cannot speak for it. I just sent an encrypted email to Adele, and I got no response at all.

    Hello Patrick
Thanks very much for the helpful link and for the info on Adele. Out of curiousity I will send Adele another encrypted message in a few days to see if she has her act together.

Again, many thanks for the reply and Warmest regards.
