Today I meant to reply encryptet to a wellknown correspondent and found an answer of Enigmail that surprised me: It says that the sender(!)-adress be invalid (see attached).
So, there is no way to send any encryptet msgs anymore.

I tried to send msgs to myself with the following results:

    • unencrypted and unsigned: ok
    • unencrypted and signed: ok
    • encrypted and signed: would not send

Do you have any clues where to turn to?

    Regards

I tried to send msgs to myself with the following results:
      /unencrypted and unsigned: ok
      / unencrypted and signed: ok
      * encrypted and signed: would not send

I would start by checking to see if your encryption subkey has expired.
You can discover this by "gpg --edit-key [your key ID]". Look for a
      section like this:

      sec rsa3072/1DCBDC01B44427C7
created: 2015-07-16 expires: never usage: SC
      trust: ultimate validity: ultimate
      ssb rsa3072/DC0F82625FA6AADE
created: 2015-07-16 expires: never usage: E
      ssb ed25519/A83CAE94D3DC3873
created: 2017-04-05 expires: never usage: S
      ssb cv25519/AA24CC81B8AED08B
created: 2017-04-05 expires: never usage: E

Only look at entries that have an "E" in the final column. (This
denotes encryption subkeys.) For instance, looking at only my
      encryption subkeys, you'd get:

      ssb rsa3072/DC0F82625FA6AADE
created: 2015-07-16 expires: never usage: E
      ssb cv25519/AA24CC81B8AED08B
created: 2017-04-05 expires: never usage: E

Check to see if your subkeys have expired. That's where I'd first look.

    Hi Rob,

    no, it hasn't.
There are just two, SCA and E, and both expire at 2023-01-27.
    Still a while.
Nevertheless there has another key expired on 2020-04-02, but it is only related to this account through my RL person.

My mail adress is as allright as it has always been, no changes.

Check if there is a per-recipient rule that points to a wrong key.

How to check rules for a recipient?

  • Patrick Brunschwig

I just checked the error message. It says that the sender email address is invalid. It does not say that the key is invalid.

And the dialog is not an Enigmail dialog - that's a Thunderbird dialog.

Please attach a debugging log file, and I will check if this is really an Enigmail error.

Strangely comes first: At 12:13 I sent an automatically encrypted msg to the same recipient from the very account - and it worked.
So, I can't reproduce the problem (for good).
Seems to me that there had been some TB error which got fixed by way of the meanwhile issued updates somehow. Just can guess.

    Thank you.
