After having upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 with Firefox and installed Enigmail 2.0.8, Enigmail seems to automatically generate additional keys for my email accounts although I have suitable keys for them already in my keyring.
When going to "manage keys" in Enigmail, both the old and new key show up, but Enigmail tries to use the new key for decryption.
When I delete the new keys, decryption works for a short time, but the new keys get regenerated automatically after some time.
When switching to OpenPGP in the account settings, only the new key can be selected, the old one is not shown.

That's a bug in the pEp engine. I'd suggest you switch to the Classical Enigmail mode, using menu Enigmail/pEp > Preferences > Compatibility. Then select "Force using S/MIME and Enigmail".

This worked apparently, thank you.
Will this but be fixed anytime soon? Because I really love the idea of pEp...
From the perspective of Enigmail, pEp is an external, independent component (like GnuPG). I suppose that yes, but I cannot answer the question.
