i am a long time user of enigmail with thunderbird, and i had written myself a manual on how to use everything. luckily, i lost the manual :(
here's my scenario:
-i always encrypt all mail, and have my employees do the same
-an employee of mine recently got a new computer. he made a new key, and sent me his public key
-i imported his public key
-i decided to delete my old key, generate a new key, and send him my new public key
so we should have each other's public keys, and we should be able to encrypt/decrypt to each other. instead:
-he sent me an encrypted message that i was able to decrypt
-i sent him an encrypted message, and he was NOT able to decrypt
where did i screw up?
anyone? i could really use some help here...
am i supposed to send him my "secret" key? or my public key?
he encrypts a message, and i can decrypt it.
however, when i encrypt a message, he can't decrypt it.
whose key is bad?
you need his public key. He has everything he needs from you.
i knew it... he kept telling me that it was on my end!
thank you for your help. he sent me his key again and it worked this time.
