I noticed today that Enigmail has stopped functioning. The add-on cannot find the gpg binary.
I tried to fix this in Enigmail | Preferences, but the preference pane would not open.
I tried to re-run the setup wizard, but it does not proceed after I have chosen the skill level (to be basic setup).
I have re-installed all the components: Thunderbird 70.6.2/Enigmail 2.0.12/GnuPG for Mac (2.2.16)
I am running MacOS 10.14.5 (which should be the latest version) and have rebooted.
Any ideas pls?

An active Enigmail installation prevents me from closing thunderbird windows (e.g. sending off emails). So, I suspected the SKS server attack and I followed your advice, but gpg hangs on

I honestly don't know how to fix this. You might be OK if you wait 10-20 minutes. The problem is that my key got (and the others I mentioned) got flooed with 100.000s of signatures, and gpg can't handle that well if at all.
If waiting for up to 20 minutes doesn't help, then please ask for support at the gnupg-users@gnupg.org mailing list.

I fear that you suffer from the SKS server attack and that your GnuPG installation became unusable.
Try to kill all gpg (or gpg2) processes, then use the command line and type:
Then restart Thunderbird and try to use Enigmail again.

Thank you! That worked for me too.
Not sure how I fetched a bad key from the SKS server network. I have now disabled that (I think).
