I've just recently downloaded Enigmail to Thunderbird email for more privacy. Having problems with my recipients not being able to open my encrypted messages. What am I doing or have I done wrong in my setup.

So my recipients need to be using Enigmail as well in order for me to have their public keys and for them to decrypt my messages. Am I understanding correctly.
Yes, I can decrypt my messages in my sent folder.

You need the public keys of the recipients, otherwise they cannot decrypt the message. Can you decrypt your messages in your sent folder?

Yes, in principle. In general they need a mail program which can handle OpenPGP compatible mails and in most cases GnuPG for their platform.
