    Nedo - 2018-11-11

    Hello,
I am using Thunderbird 52.9.1 and Enigmail 2.0.8.

Just started testing Enigmail usage for the first time.

From within Thunderbird I manage two email accounts of mine (A and B).
Both have their own distinct set of public/private keys.
A is POP, B is IMAP.

When I send an encrypted and/or signed mail from A to B, the mail is automatically decrypted and nicely visualized from the B account.

When I send an encrypted and/or signed mail from B to A, the mail is visualized from the A account with no text and two attached files: ATT0 and encrypted.asc.

I am able to decrypt and save encrypted.asc to disk and then open it in a text viewer, but this is not optimal.

How could I start trying to figure out how to get automatic decryption also when sending encrypted and/or signed messages from B to A?

As far as I can tell the two mail accounts A and B have very similar (if not identical) settings in terms of Thunderbird settings and in terms of Enigmail/OpenPGP settings as well.

    Thank you

    Kind Regards

PS In case feedback/files are needed from my side, please provide step-by-step instructions due to my absolute beginner stage with Enigmail.

This looks to me like the messages sent from B are getting modified after they were sent.

If you attach a complete message sent from B to A to this thread, I can probably determine what's going on. Please use menu File > Save as to save the message.

    Thanks Patrick!
I just saved the message in eml format.
One question before I attach it (as said I am a beginner): should I attach the eml file like it is or are there any privacy/security things I should consider before attaching that file here?

  • Patrick Brunschwig

The eml file contains your email address(es) and probably the subject. If you don't want to see that public, then edit the file with a text editor and remove the information before uploading.

    Thanks, here's the file.

Any info on this one? Thanks

Excuse me, but I work on Enigmail during my free time. I didn't have time to look at it so far.

The message got clearly modified by "FreePOPS/MIMER". The way the modification is made breaks the structure, such that it cannot be recognized as PGP/MIME message anymore.

There is nothing Enigmail could do about it.

    Thanks Patrick.
Obviously I didn't want to push you.
Indeed no capital letters, no exclamation marks... just text and a plain request for news.
I have no idea about how long it could have taken for my question.
While I am sure I am among the ones who appreciates and support Enigmail.

You don't find any exclamation mark, nor any capital letters in my answer above. I only used capital letters for things that are written with capital letters such as "PGP/MIME".

With "no capital letters, no exclamation marks" I was referring to my own text where I was asking for news.
Just to underline that imho I didn't push with my request for news.
It was just a request for news.
Anyways it's great to have another confirmation that you work for Enigmail (mild irony here).
Thanks again for the info and for Enigmail.
