    Hello,

Since I upgraded to Thunderbird 24.0 on OS X (Enigmail 1.5.2), I've been
having an intermittent problem sending mail. I finally traced it to
Enigmail - the first time I send mail upon opening Thunderbird I'm
prompted for my password and everything is fine, and I can continue to
send mail (by default signing mail) as long as the passphrase is cached.
Once it expires from the cache, however, I just get "Sending of message
failed" (along with a note to re-check my settings) unless I disable
signing. If I open one of the key management functions to force
re-entering of my passphrase, I can then send signed mail again.

Any ideas? I've used enigmail for years, and this is the first major
    problem I'm hit.

    Thanks,

    Matt

See attached (the log has me sending one email at around 13:39, waiting 5 minutes for my passphrase to expire, then sending again. The relevant bit seems to be:

    2013-09-29 13:40:41.246 enigmailCommon.jsm: haveCachedPassphrase: CACHE IDLED OUT
    2013-09-29 13:40:41.246 [ERROR] mimeEncrypt.js: caught exception: NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE
Message: 'Cannot call openModalWindow on a hidden window'

Weirdly, if I wait until Thunderbird wants to auto-save a draft, I then get successfully prompted for my passphrase again, and can then send the mail.
