The message

Sending of keys failed gpg: sending key xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx to hkps://hkps.pool.sks-keyservers.net

which is displayed after the upload of my public key to a keyserver failed doesn't contain information why the upload failed. I assume the upload is delegated to the gpg binary. The fact that the upload eventually failed in external program shouldn't make the software less intuitive than possible.

Since the message is displayed instantly after clicking the upload menu item the failure might not be caused by a failing upload (which I'd expect to take 1 or 2 seconds), but a local program failures. I can't investigate that because the error message contains no information like the invoked command or exit codes.

Yes, upload is done by gpg, and the output is what gpg returns.

I already "fixed" that on master by not using gpg anymore for key up-/download.
