When opening encrypted mails, Enigmail asks for the own private key password two times for every mail. Chaninging the password caching time from 5 minutes to 10 or 15 minutes does not change anything. This time is ignored completely.

    Please provide additional details:

    • OS, (distribution, if Linux), and Version.
    • Version of GnuPG 2.x you are using (1.4.3 certainly will not work with Enigmail 1.9.x)

    Thanks!

gpgme is definitely version 1.4.3 and it works - de/encryption is not a problem, only entering of the password
Enigmail is the latest version as available via Add-On-download

...and gnupg is available in version 1.4.20

GnuPG Version 1.x and GnuPG Version 2.y can be installed simultaneously. Enigmail 1.9 will only use GnuPG Version 2.y. But back to your problem: You probably are using an older version of an alternate passphrase agent (e.g. Gnome Keyring, etc.). These older versions had problems, e.g. Enigmail could not set the cache timeout.

Do you really use Enigmail 1.9.7? Enigmail does not use gpgme at all, and Enigmail 1.9.x will refuse to work with GnuPG versions before 2.0.7.

As said, I use the latest Enigmail which is provided via Thunderbirds internal Add-On-Installation mechanism (so I did not download any external files).

In this case, the problem is with gpg-agent, as Enigmail would not do any passphrase management at all.

OK, updating the Gnome-Keyring package seems to have solved this problem - thanks!
