Reopening of #676: https://sourceforge.net/p/enigmail/bugs/676/ Failure in Permanent decryption of PGP message via Filter-rule/Enigmail into IMAP Inbox SEE LOG FILES THERE

Steps to reproduce:

TB 45.8.0
Windows machine (i.e. Win 10, 7...).
Enigmail 1.9.6.1

Create filter to automatically decrypt all incoming emails in the user's IMAP INBOX and store an unencrypted copy (and NOT keep the original encrypted email= "Trusted Server Scenario").

Filter rule based on the enigmail Wiki instructions here: https://enigmail.wiki/Signature_and_Enc ... f_messages
See attached screenshot.!

Actual results:

The filter should decrypt every incoming email permanently to the IMAP Inbox.

However, the automatic decryption filter does not work. We tested on multiple clients and environments (i.e. WIndows 7, 10 with TB 45.8.0, Enigmail 1.9.6.1).

Thunderbird seems to hang in without ending and shows a working rolling wheel and "loading message" forever when such encrypted email arrives, but nothing else happens.

Manual decryption of an email is fine.

Logs attached.

Expected results:

Decrypt permanently (Enigmail) Filter should store only the decrypted email in the IMAP INBOX.

ADDENDUM:
Nighty build 2.0a1pre installation as suggested here https://sourceforge.net/p/enigmail/bugs/676/ did not resolve issue. With the nighty built the filter setting page does not seem to allow specifying the folder where the message is to be stored permanently decrypted, (see screenshot), and nothing seems to happen at all.

I don't understand what you mean with "With the nighty built the filter setting page does not seem to allow specifying the folder where the message is to be stored permanently decrypted"

    Dear Patrick,
please have a look at the updated attachment.
In the filter setting page the dropdown menu, that allowed specifying the folder where to store the decrypted message, has disappeared.

See comparison screenshot of OLD setting page "Permanant decrypt in IMAP folder OLD" and after installation of nighty built " Nighty built NIGHTY".

    I hope that clarifies.!

The debug log is with 1.9.6.1. It shows the problem which Patrick was talking about. Please also attach a debug log with a nightly build. The broken destination folder selection is not reproducible on Mac OS X. I'll test on windows tomorrow.

Will do as soon as I have access to the non-production PC with the nightly build again, in about 1 week.
How did your test on windows run?

Everything works as expected in the mail filter rule dialog for me. The destination folder is a Thunderbird element and not overloaded by Enigmail. Enigmail just adds actions (e.g. "create decrypted copy") to this dialog. This is a hint that the Thunderbird profile is damaged. Could you please try with a fresh profile?

@T.Race: Unfortunately, I personally experienced multiple "broken TB profile" issues during the last year. Earlier I thought that this could be due to my switching between Windows and Linux, or between TB release and nightly versions. But I did not switch during the last year, and am using a freshly created profile. Rule of thumb: Whenever I had to force-close TB for whatever reason, the likeliness of some profile corruption increased significantly. My recent JS error was an extension I had uninstalled long ago which obviously wasn't removed cleanly. I manually edited some files, and deleted others (so that TB would recreate them) losing some settings but no longer suffering strange errors. Rule of thumb:

Whenever you experience issues, reproduce them in a new profile.
(Yes, thats a PITA, I know.)
