Hello,

When I export my settings from engimail on thunderbird engimail linux (latest versions of enigmail and gnupg2 and thunderbird) I cannot import the into the Mac version of thunderbird engimail. When I pick the zip file and say open, it says there was an error. The purpose of IMAP is to support multiple clients. I need this to work on both desktop, phone, and my 3 working systems.... Thoughts?

I have verified the integrity of the zip file and contents and can open it with the mac zip tools.

Can you please retry the import on Mac OS X and then create a debug log file?

See http://www.enigmail.net/index.php/en/faq-en?view=topic&id=15 for creating a debug log file.

      Patrick,

Thanks for the help. Here you go. It's all there. The retry was on
1/9 so that's near the end of the log.

I'm sorry, but I cannot find any log file. As far as I know, you need to upload the log file to the bug report; you cannot send it by replying to the bug mail.

When you pick the file and Enigmail says there was an error - what does it say precisely? I can see in the log that the import was started, but nothing else.

      David Beecher - 2017-01-11

      Here's the process:

      1. launch thunderbird
      2. go to enigmail menu
      3. select "preferences"
      4. inside preferences select "Backup/Restore" at the top right
      5. Click on the button "Restore Settings and Keys"
      6. Click on "Browse" and select the "Enigmail-export.zip" file and
        click "CONTINUE".

The instant I click continue it puts a message directly under the
      filenamefiled-and-browse-button that says:

"An error occurred during importing. Your settings could not be
      applied."

Nothing else. The dialog doesn't go away or anything. I can click
"CONTINUE" again and it does the same thing.

I have verified the integrity of the .zip file.

I even tried unzipping to a folder and selecting that folder but it
      would not do it.

      Thanks,

      David

Unfortunately Enigmail 1.9.6 does not contain enough debugging output to at find out where the process breaks. I added some more debugging output and created a new build. Can you please install the following build on Mac OS X (the only changes compared to the official 1.9.6.1 release are the debugging infos for the import of settings):
    http://enigmail.net/download/nightly/enigmail-nightly-enigmail-1.9-branch-all.xpi

After installation (and restarting Thunderbird), can you please retry the import and then upload a new debug log file?

        Hello,

Sorry to take so long to get this done. I got overtaken by events.

So I removed the old enigmail and restarted, then installed this version
        and restarted Thunderbird.

Then I tried to do the import. Same behavior as before, but the
Thunderbird Error Console reported NO errors (I cleared it before doing
the test) and when I went to check it, no new errors (not errors at all)
        were shown.

I will upload the "log" to the ticket. Also, the enigmail console
        looked like this:

        Initializing Enigmail service ...
        EnigmailAgentPath=/usr/local/bin/gpg

        enigmail> /usr/local/bin/gpg --version --version --batch --no-tty --charset utf-8 --display-charset utf-8

Here's the log file with the "debug" version of enigmail installed on my Mac (attached).

OK, we're getting a little closer. I can see what went wrong.

To fix this, I'd like to setup my environment exactly like yours. Which version of GPGTools did you install?

gpg key manager: Version 1.3.2 (1245)
    gpgsuite 2016.10 (newest version available)

I am downloading it now and will let you know what happens. Thank you!

No go. I've included the enigmail debug log and the thunderbird error console output

and the error console from thunderbird

Is it a problem because the gpghome directory is not defined on the linux version and so you get this error:

    2017-01-14 00:44:02.545 [DEBUG] enigmailSetupWizard.js: importSettings
2017-01-14 00:44:02.546 [DEBUG] enigmailSetupWizard.js: importSettings - ensureGpgHomeDir() failed with no gpghome dir
    undefined

    Thanks,
    David

  • Patrick Brunschwig

Sorry, my error - I didn't merge the change correctly from the development branch to the 1.9-branch. In any case - the undefined gpghome dir is indeed the problem.

Please try again downloading a new version from http://enigmail.net/download/nightly/enigmail-nightly-enigmail-1.9-branch-all.xpi

      Hello,

When I export my settings from engimail on thunderbird engimail linux
(latest versions of enigmail and gnupg2 and thunderbird) I cannot
import the into the Mac version of thunderbird engimail. When I pick
the zip file and say open, it says there was an error. The purpose of
IMAP is to support multiple clients. I need this to work on both
desktop, phone, and my 3 working systems.... Thoughts?

I have verified the integrity of the zip file and contents and can
open it with the mac zip tools.
